Aging-In-Place is is not having to move from one's present residence in response to changing needs as one gets older. It may also involve moving a loved one into your home to avoid placement in a facility. McKay Building Company has Certified Aging-In-Place Specialists (CAPS) with Remodelor/Contractor and Health Care designations. We have an RN on staff with experience in geriatrics and rehabilitation nursing. We will be happy to assist you in making changes to your home that will accommodate your changing needs and make your life easier.
A semi-finished basement became a "man cave" for a disabled homeowner and allowed him direct access from the garage. A lift was installed which allowed him to travel back and forth between the main living area and this newly designed space where his accessible bath was located. A four-foot-wide door provided entry into the tiled shower/toilet area.
This project won first place in the 2008 Alabama Remodeling Excellence Awards in the Universal Design category.
